Shattered
Have you ever felt completely shattered? Maybe you lost your job, didn’t have enough money in your bank account to cover your mortgage and/or bills, or maybe your pet passed away? All of the emotions you feel are validated.
When a person’s spouse dies, their entire world has been shattered into a zillion pieces. God made a husband and a wife for communion, support, and togetherness. “Then the Lord God said, “It is not good for the man to be alone. I will make a helper who is just right for him.”” Genesis 2:18 NLT
God knew man needed a wife. When we look to the the following verses, we see the validation Adam gets from a perfectly formed woman. “Then the Lord God made a woman from the rib, and he brought her to the man. “At last!” the man exclaimed. “This one is bone from my bone, and flesh from my flesh! She will be called ‘woman,’ because she was taken from ‘man.’”” Genesis 2:22-23 NLT
His excitement was genuine. Notice we came from Adam created by God therefore it is only natural to think we were created not first, but second. Today’s world doesn’t want to think that man is in charge of women, but can we agree that man was created from the very beginning to protect us?
Our husbands have an obligation ordained by God to provide for us. So, in keeping that in mind, when our spouses pass away, we naturally feel less protected and cared for. We, as women, were created to care and nurture our spouses.
Why is this important? Because when our immediate world becomes broken, we can’t provide that innate desire to nurture when nothing is there. It’s very complex, but at the same time easy to understand if your faith belongs to our Heavenly Father, acceptance of Jesus’ death on the cross, and the power of the Holy Spirit.
We are meant to leave our families and be joined with our husband. “This explains why a man leaves his father and mother and is joined to his wife, and the two are united into one.”Genesis 2:24 NLT
Unfortunately, some choices were made by Adam and Eve and severe consequences had to take place. Genesis Chapter 3 covers the curse in detail. This blog entry is meant to discuss the natural loss we feel when our spouse passes.
God can make you whole again. Even though your world has been shattered, God can make even the most horrific events beautiful some how and some way. We have to honor God by respecting Him to do His work through the Holy Spirit. Complete and utter supplication is needed to feel the great peace that only comes from Our Father that cares, loves, and knows us more intimately than we know ourselves.
My hope is in Him. My prayer is that you would allow God to work in your heart and take that step to find your own joyful hike.
